Chris Choma recording the Chris Explores the Gospels podcast

Uncovering the world behind the Word.

A Catholic podcast, blog, and teaching ministry rooted in the simple desire to walk with Christ through the Gospels.

I’m Chris Choma, a Catholic teacher, podcaster, retreat minister, and contributing writer for Catholic365. For years I’ve been exploring the Gospels through prayer, good books, the Church’s tradition, and the world Jesus walked in. What I share here comes from that slow, steady journey: listening to Scripture, studying its history and culture, and letting the words of Christ shape daily life.

Through my long‑form podcast Chris Explores the Gospels, the short reflections of Gospel Snacks heard on Catholic radio, and the written meditations I publish in the blog each week, my hope is always the same: that these reflections help you see the Gospels with fresh eyes and meet Jesus more personally in the stories you’ve heard your whole life.

This ministry grows out of years teaching OCIA, ACTS retreats, and Spirit of Truth Radio Arts — places where I’ve watched the Holy Spirit move in quiet, ordinary, beautiful ways. Everything here is offered in that same spirit.

If you’re looking for Gospel reflections, Scripture study, or a simple way to stay close to Christ in the rhythm of daily life, you’re in the right place. I’m grateful you’re here.

We enter the story of the paralytic — a man carried to Jesus by friends when he could not come on his own. Here we discover why Jesus forgives before He heals, and what this reveals about the wounds we carry beneath the surface. With a personal reflection on identity, self‑perception, and the healing power of God’s mercy, this episode invites listeners to experience the God who restores us from the inside out.

“Come to the Waters”

In this Gospel Snack, Chris reflects on Isaiah 55:1–3 and God’s beautiful invitation to come to Him just as you are. Whether you’re weary, thirsty, or running on empty, God offers rest, renewal, and life for your heart. This brief reflection reminds you that His presence isn’t earned — it’s received — and His invitation to “Come, listen, live” is open to you today.

“Always at Your Shoulder”

And in that moment, I saw my wife differently. Not just as the mother of our children. I realized: she is always at their shoulder. Even when they don’t see it. Her presence is a kind of steady, unspoken promise.

Life can leave us questioning our value, but God speaks a different truth. Rooted in Jeremiah 31:3, this article invites you into a tender reminder that His love is constant, faithful, and already holding you together. A heartfelt reflection for anyone longing to breathe again.

Why I Do This

The Gospels have changed my life—not because I’ve mastered them, but because I keep returning to them with questions, curiosity, and a desire to understand the world Jesus lived in. The more I learn about history, culture, the Church, and Scripture, the more the Gospels open up in surprising and beautiful ways.

I share this work because I want others to experience that same sense of discovery. If something here helps you see Jesus a little more clearly or understand the Scriptures a little more deeply, then this whole project is worth it.
